Airport Express line to open next week
The Airport Express line is set to be thrown open to public soon as the Chief Metro Railway Safety is scheduled to inspect the line next week. The date of commissioning of the line will be decided after the inspection.
“The project is ready in all aspects. We have successfully done the testing and commissioning and are awaiting CMRS inspection on Monday or Tuesday. The opening of Airport Express line will be decided once the inspection is over,” spokesperson, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group, said.
The 24.2 km Airport Express line connects New Delhi Railway Station with Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is modelled on London’s Heathrow Express and Hong Kong’s Metro Airport Link. It will have only six stoppages and will cover the distance in 20 minutes.
For air travellers, airline and baggage check in counters will be available at the New Delhi Railway Station, Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Terminus Metro Stations. The minimum and maximum fare is `30 and `150.
The coaches are more sophisticated with front facing chairs.
