Airport line may start next week
The Delhi Metro’s ambitious high-speed Airport Express Line may start next week. The line underwent fourth safety check on Friday.
“The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety began a two-day inspection of the corridor on Friday. We are hopeful this time we will get the safety clearance certificate. We will then need less than a week to open the line for public,” a Reliance official said.
The 23-km Airport Express line, built on public private partnership basis with Reliance, will connect the central shopping district of Connaught Place with the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.
The line promises to take commuters from the New Delhi Railway Station to IGI airport in 18 minutes.
The official said an Air India team recently conducted a technical inspection at the stations and was happy with the facilities. The flag carrier is likely to sign an agreement to set up its check-in counters soon.
