Burglar involved in 117 cases held
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Dec. 22
The police has arrested a 35-year-old leader of a burglars’ gang who is believed to be involved in 117 cases reported from the capital.
The accused, identified as Nadeem, has been actively working in the National Capital Region since last 12 years and was involved in 12 recent cases of robbery. The police was looking for Nadeem since January when one of his associates Arif was arrested and he spilled beans about the gang.
“On a specific tip-off that he would come to meet his associate in Sector 1, Dwarka, a trap was at laid near MTNL Chowk. The accused, however, evaded the police team and tried to escape but was held. Initially, he tried to mislead the police by giving false statements but relentless questioning led to his confession,” deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Anil Kumar Ojha said.
“We were looking for him for the last two years since his involvement surfaced in a number of theft and robbery cases. He has a penchant for ransacking the houses and has committed several burglaries in Dwarka with his associates Arif, Mullah Shakil and Master Yusuf. They used to meet at different locations in southwest Delhi to chalk out their strategy for burgling houses,” DCP Ojha said.
“They used to spend the money realised from booty on expensive apparel, and on visiting pubs and discotheques. We have recovered four pairs of gold ear rings, two gold rings, one pair of silver anklet and other items from his possession,” Mr Ojha said.
