All mayors must resign: Cong
The Congress blamed the BJP-ruled municipal corporations for the flood chaos and demanded resignation of the three mayors over “total failure” to address the perennial problem of waterlogging in the city.
Holding the municipal corporations responsible for “failing” to improve the drainage system, senior Congress leader and chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s parliamentary secretary Mukesh Sharma said that the Delhi government has been providing adequate funds to them in the last few years.
Mr Sharma said, “All the three mayors must resign immediately owing responsibility for the flood-like situation in Delhi. Normal life has been severely affected as people were stranded on waterlogged roads for hours.” Mr Sharma added that waterlogging has been a perennial problem in the city and the civic bodies should have improved the drainage system as the government has been providing adequate funds to them in the last few years.
“Those ruling the municipal corporations are only interested in making money through corrupt practices. They are not bothered about the crumbling drainage system and other problems being faced by the common man,” said Sharma.
He alleged that three municipal bodies did not carry out proper desilting of major drains, which resulted “massive waterlogging” following just one hour of rains in the city.
“The BJP is answerable to the people of the city,” said Mr Sharma, who is a four-time MLA from Uttam Nagar constituency.
