Another day of rain, traffic jams
It was yet another day of rain, traffic jams, roads caving-in, buildings falling and trees getting uprooted for Delhiites on Friday as the capital received 10.3 mm of rain since morning. What made matters worse was 110 mm of rain received in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am.
Even neighbouring areas received heavy rainfall since later night. The pitter patter continued till afternoon. In the capital, the traffic was in a mess at Ashram Chowk where a portion of the road had caved-in. Almost the entire stretch of the Ring Road from DND to Ashram and up to Dhaula Kuan witnessed heavy traffic jam in the rush hour during morning.
Other places where traffic was badly hit were ITO, Mathura Road, Badarpur, Nizamuddin, Green Park and Laxmi Nagar. Traffic also moved at snail’s pace in Connaught Place, South Extension, Dhaula Kuan, Karol Bagh, Moti Bagh and Mehrauli.
The MCD received 167 complaints of water logging in 24 hours from 2 pm on Thursday to 2 pm this afternoon. The complaints were received from areas like Kamla Market, Shantivan towards Daryaganj, Aman Vihar, Pitam Pura Ashok Vihar, Lawrence Road Industrial Area, Lajpat Nagar Part-I, Sangam Vihar (behind police station), T-Point Mathura Road, Amar Colony, DDA Flats Munirka, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Green Park, Safdarjung, Rao Tula Ram Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Adchini, Tigri Colony, Vasant Vihar and Dhaula Kuan towards Naraina. The wall of a school was damaged along with a few vehicles at west Patel Nagar in west Delhi when a tree got uprooted this morning. In another incident, traffic was badly affected when a tree fell on the road in Ashok Vihar area. Nobody was seriously injured though.
