Area littered with garbage? Log in

Delhiites can now lodge complaints of uncleanliness and poor sanitation in their areas on the Facebook page of MCD which promises to take prompt action on the same. The MCD on Wednesday launched its page on the popular networking website Facebook (FB) and the page was “liked” by many citizens who see in it a ray of

hope that their problems would be solved promptly. The agency’s FB page is limited to monitoring of lifting of garbage and cleaning of garbage station, but the citizens want the MCD to include other services too.
Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney formally launched the page.
Explaining the modalities, additional commissioner Anshu Prakash said that the concept was simple.
There are at least 2,500 garbage sites across the city and the MCD will place boards specifying zero garbage time, unique bin number and complaint number. On the Facebook page, critical information such as the service standards and area-wise details of the 12 MCD zones have been posted under the tabs “Services” and “Know Your Area” (KYA).
The citizens have to familiarise themselves with the levels of service delivery vis-a-vis garbage collection that the MCD has assured, then monitor the garbage collection site to ensure that the standards are met.
If garbage isn’t collected, or the garbage site is not cleaned, the citizens can register complaint on the Facebook page, along with photographs (if possible) and such details as the garbage collection site number. MCD promises to take action on the complaint and revert on Facebook itself. So every time a complaint is made, and every time MCD takes remedial action, or fails to take it, every one on the MCD Facebook page gets to know of it.
However, those visiting the page already want the MCD to look after cleanliness of sewers.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
