‘Balancing studies, play is formula’

Balancing studies with play is the formula for success, say students who have topped the Class 12 CBSE exams this year.

Aditya Grover from Delhi Public School (DPS), R.K. Puram, topper of science stream in Delhi, said he is yet to believe that he has topped and never expected it. He, however, said it was the guidance from teachers and parents which paid off.
“It has yet to sink in that I have topped in the Delhi region. I was expecting a good score but not this good as I did not study too hard but maintained the balance,” says Grover.
Aditya, who scored 99 in mathematics and computers, wants to pursue engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology. His father V.K. Grover said he never put pressure on Aditya.
“We just provided direction to Aditya but never put pressure on him to do well. It’s really nice to seem him secure this percentage despite preparing for the competitive exams,” he said.
Urmi Uppal from DPS, Mathura Road, topped in the commerce stream. She wants to pursue B.Com. (Hons) from elite colleges like St. Stephen’s or SRCC.
She said being regular with the studies really paid. “I was very regular in studies. In exams I did nothing but study, but in the normal course, I tried to keep pace with what the teachers taught in the classroom. I took coaching too where I felt I was weak,” Urmi said.
She said her parents were a great support as they provided moral support and fulfilled all her needs.
Tarana Chauhan of DPS, R.K. Puram, who loves dancing and partying with friends, has scored 96.8 per cent in Humanities and now wants to study Economics Honours at St. Stephen’s.
“I attribute my success to my parents and the school. I was regular with my studies and never got tensed as studying continuously doesn’t help,” she said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
