Bank guard shot at outside ATM
A bank security guard was shot at by unidentified assailants when he resisted their attempt to barge into an ATM while it was being refilled with currency in Dwarka on Friday morning.
The incident took place at around 10.15 am at a mall in Sector 7, Dwarka, the police said. Two unidentified armed assailants tried to barge into the ATM of Kotak Mahindra Bank. “When the security guard, identified as Amarpal, 32, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, tried to stop them, one assailant took out a revolver and shot at him,” a police official said.
The locals rushed to the ATM on hearing the gunshots but the assailants had escaped by then and Amarpal was lying in a pool of blood. “A team of cops rushed to the spot and took Amarpal to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical,” the official said.
The police said the ATM was being refilled with currency at the time of the incident and the security guard had asked the assailants to wait. The motive behind the incident is not clear as the statement of the victim is yet to be recorded.
“The assailants forcefully tried to enter the ATM, which resulted in an argument. We have asked for CCTV footage from the bank to identify the accused. A case has been registered at the Palam police station and investigations are on,” the official said.
