Barapulla elevated road open
The elevated Barapulla Nullah road was thrown open to public on Tuesday and will give relief to commuters from east Delhi coming to south Delhi along with easing of traffic at the busy Ashram crossing.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that the elevated road would be extended beyond the Yamuna to connect with the UP link road, thus connecting with the satellite towns of Ghaziabad and Noida.
The Barapulla Nullah elevated road was constructed to facilitate athletes in reaching J.N. Stadium from the Games Village.
“The road has been opened to light vehicles and buses though heavy vehicles like trucks will not be allowed to ply. Buses will have to take a compulsory right turn near J.N. Stadium on reaching there from Sarai Kale Khan. The DTC has also decided to ply buses on this road,” said the chief minister’s office.
The road connects two points of Ring Road and Sarai Kale Khan and near AIIMS flyover reducing the distance from 12 km to just 8 km. The road will decongest Ring Road at Ashram and Bhairon Road.
Though the cost of the project was `498 crores, it has been executed with savings of about `25 crores.
