Bawana plant trial run begins
After a gap of around a decade, Delhi finally has its own power generation plant. The Bawana plant generated around 220 MW of electricity in a trial run on Thursday. However, the gas supply to the plant is not proper yet and it is expected that the plant will generate around 750 MW after the supply of additional gas soon.
“With additional supply of 220 MW into the grid, it is expected that the frequency will improve substantially. It is also expected that with more gas supply the generation at Bawana will soon touch 750 MW. It will go a long way in providing uninterrupted, quality power supply in the city,” chief minister Sheila Dikshit said.
The plant was set to be operational before the Commonwealth Games 2010 but it faced a delay of almost one year due to various reasons. The plant was denied gas supply from the KG-D6 basin and after that the authorities pleaded to the Central government to intervene in the issue.
