Bikers hit lawyer, rob Rs 10 lakhs
Bike-borne robbers struck in an east Delhi locality on Thursday afternoon by targeting a 66-year-old advocate, who was assaulted and robbed of cash worth lakhs of rupees.
Police officials said the victim, identified as Chaman Lal Yadav, who practises at Karkardooma Courts, was going to deposit Rs 10 lakhs at a bank in Farsh Bazaar area in his Alto car when two bike-borne men intercepted him outside his Gali no 9, Bola Nath Nagar, Farsh Bazaar residence and forcibly took away his bag containing cash. The police has registered a case of robbery.
Police sources revealed that Yadav, who unsuccessfully contested Assembly elections on a BSP ticket, had gone to the Central Bank in Karkardooma to deposit Rs 10 lakhs in lieu of a flat he had purchased in Farsh Bazar area recently.
“On reaching the bank, he was told by the officials that he needs to provide his PAN number. Since he was not carrying his PAN card, Yadav rushed back home to collect the card. When he was coming out of his residence, two bikers asked him to hand over the bag,” a senior police official said.
Yadav was assaulted by the robbers when he tried to resist. “The assailants smashed Yadav against an electric pole and when he fell unconscious, they escaped with the bag. Yadav made a PCR call when he regained consciousness. A police team rushed Yadav to a nearby hospital from where he was discharged after receiving first aid,” the official said.
