Bikers loot `57 lakhs from pump staff
NEW DELHI, AUG. 11
Unknown assailants shot at petrol pump staff carrying cash and allegedly also robbed `57 lakhs from the victims in Vivek Vihar area of east Delhi at about 10.30 am on Saturday. The victims, Jagmohan Singh, alias Goldi, 31, Jitender, 22, Vinod, 32, and Punit, work at a petrol pump on G.T. Road.
At around 10.07 am, Goldi left the petrol pump along with his three colleagues in an Alto car. According to reports, two unidentified assailants started following them on a blue Pulsar motorcycle even as their two accomplices were waiting on a another motorcycle across the road.
“When the petrol pump employees reached ITI underpass, the robbers pointed their guns at them and asked them to stop. When the driver, Goldi, did not stop the car, the assailants opened fire hitting the windscreen. Jitender and Punit rushed out of the car and started running to safety but the robbers opened fire at them,” said the police.
Jitender was hit while Punit managed to escape. “The robbers allegedly snatched two blue bags from them, left their motorcycle and crossed over to the other side of road waving pistol and fled with their two accomplices on their bike,” said an eyewitness, Raju, who runs a tea shop near the underpass.
Preliminary investigation suggest that the robbers knew about the route taken by the victims.
“Prima facie it appears that the robbers were following them from the pump. They waited for the car to reach the middle of the underpass as there was no light there,” said a senior police official.
The police has seized the blue Pulsar motorcycle from the spot.
The investigators also seized another motorcycle found nearby.
A case has been registered against unknown persons at the Vivek Vihar police station.
