Bikers rob trader, locals blame cops
Two armed bike-borne assailants robbed a businessman in broad daylight in Karol Bagh, central Delhi, on Monday morning.
Police officials said the incident took place at around 11.30 am when the victim. identified as Vipin Mittal, 48, who runs a grocery store in Bapa Nagar, was going to bank to deposit `4 lakhs, which he was carrying in a bag.
Two assailants intercepted him when he parked his scooter outside Union Bank of India’s Arya Samaj Road branch.
“The pillion rider pricked him with a pin and snatched the bag. Before Mittal could understand what had happened, the assailants escaped with the bag,” the official said.
“Mittal started shouting for help following which locals gathered. A case was registered against unknown assailants at the Karol Bagh police station. No arrests have been made so far,” the official said.
DCP (central), Vivek Kishore was not available for his comments. Sources said the bikers were wearing helmets and efforts are on to identity the motorcycle. Local businessmen blamed the police and alleged that such incidents take place very often in the locality. “The police is doing nothing to curb such incidents, which makes the assailants more daring,” said a shopkeeper.
Meanwhile, the police busted a sex racket with the arrest of seven persons, including six women. The racket operating from Sector-16, Rohini, was exposed after police sent a decoy customer to strike a deal with Premalata, 39, and her associate Dev Kumar, 35.
“We sent a policeman as a decoy customer. Five girls were presented before him. They asked him `2,500 for a night. We raided the premises and arrested them,” Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (outer), said.
