Bikers snatch `5 lakhs from 65-yr-old man
Two unidentified bikers snatched a bag containing cash from a 65-year-old former MTNL employee in Narela, outer Delhi, on Friday afternoon.
The victim, Bhagwan Bansal, a retired MTNL employee, had visited Bawana Road branch of Corporation Bank to withdraw `5 lakhs, the police said. “He put the cash in
his bag and was walking in Punjabi Colony area of Narela when two bikers snatched his bag and fled before he could raise an alarm. Mr Bansal, a resident of Narela, informed the police control room instantly. The police recorded the statement of Mr Bansal and registered a case.
Meanwhile, the house of a section officer in defence ministry was burgled in broad daylight in Jagatpuri area with `50,000 in cash and jewellery worth `3.50 lakhs reported missing.
The police said that the incident came to light when the neighbours found the main gate to the residence broken and alerted the official Pravesh Sethi, who in turn informed the police control room about the burglary. A police officer said that the call was made at around 12 pm from west Arjun Nagar, Jagatpuri area of east Delhi on Thursday.
“A police team was rushed to the spot and it was found that the house was allegedly ransacked and `50,000 in cash and jewellery worth `3.50 lakhs was missing from the house,” said a police officer.
Mr Sethi and his wife were at their offices when the theft took place.
