Bizman in debt commits suicide
A 47-year-old businessman committed suicide on Wednesday at his residence in Borivali because he had suffered heavy business losses. He has left behind a suicide note where he has held his brother-in-law and two nephews responsible for his debts and death. The Borivali police has arrested his brother-in-law on abetment of suicide charges and are probing the roles of the two nephews to see if they are at fault.
According to the Borivali police, deceased Chetan Magia took the extreme step by hanging himself between 10.30 am to 8 pm on Wednesday at his residence in Dattani Nagar on SV Road.
Magia, along with his brother-in-law Shailesh Ajmera (53) and Ajmera’s sons Neerav and Kushal, ran a business where they provided chemicals to companies and retailers. Magia had a good name in the market and he alleged that the trio misused it to borrow money from the market, which they did not return later.
“According to the suicide note left behind by Magia, Ajmera borrowed `1.49 crore from others in his name and failed to return the money. When Ajmera couldn’t return the amount, the moneylenders started demanding the large sum from Magia. He has blamed Ajmera and his two sons for forcing him to take the extreme step,” said police inspector, crime, Ravi Adane.
The police arrested Ajmera under Section 306 of the IPC. Ajmera was produced in Borivali court and remanded to police custody till May 21.
