BJP attacks govt over Afzal’s plea
While the Delhi government on Tuesday claimed to have cleared the file on the mercy petition of Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru, the BJP leaders asked the government to come clean on a mercy petition. The BJP leaders added that the party will go on a protest for an indefinite period. The BJP protest will begin on Wednesday at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
“So far, we have been told that chief minister Sheila Dikhsit has replied, but the reply is not clear,” said leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly V.K. Malhotra.
Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said, “The Delhi chief minister has only replied to the reminder sent by the ministry of home affairs. We expect the chief minister to reply on the file on Afzal Guru, which is with the Delhi government’s office for the past four years.” Mr Gupta added that we want to know the reasons why the Delhi government has failed to act on Afzal Guru’s case when he has been sentenced by the Supreme Court. Mr Gupta said that “we have no options but to go on a dharna (protest)”.
Delhi Pradesh Congress president J.P. Agarwal refused to comment on the issue. Earlier in the day, Ms Dikshit told the media that the file has been moved for further action.
