BJP: Don’t let schools raise fees
Delhi BJP on Friday warned the city government against allowing private schools to hike their fees. The party threatened to launch a stir if the government allowed the private schools to hike fee on the plea of accommodating 25 per cent students from the economically weaker section under the provisions of the Right to Education Act.
However, the Delhi government has already warned the schools not to hike fees. It had stated that the schools would be compensated by the government for providing free education to poor students. However, the private schools have indicated that they would hike the fee to bear the cost of providing free education to poor students.
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta, while condemning the one-sided announcement by the private schools to increase fees by 40 per cent in lieu of providing education to poor children, requested the government to intervene in the matter.
Meanwhile, the private schools have threatened that they will shut down if the government does not allow hike in fee. Delhi education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely had said that no hike will be allowed.
