BJP to hold rally for Sheila ouster
The BJP burnt effigies of chief minister Sheila Dikshit in several areas of the city on Sunday demanding her immediate resignation over the CAG report indicting her for alleged irregularities in several Commonwealth Games projects.
Launching a “mass movement”, the city unit of the party held demonstrations at over 30 places and burnt her effigies as part of the protest.
“We will not stop our agitation until the chief minister resigns,” said Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta.
The report was tabled in Parliament on Friday after which the city unit of the BJP had also demanded registration of a CBI case against Dikshit.
The party will also hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan on August 9 to demand her dismissal while party workers will “gherao” Parliament on August 11 to press for her removal, Mr Gupta said.
Mr Gupta further informed that the effigies of chief minister Sheila Dikshit were burnt at around 30 places.
The CAG cited her “active involvement” in the grant of a work incurring a loss of `30 crore while slamming her government on some projects that led to a loss and escalation of costs of nearly `500 crores.

6 held for robbery, `1cr seized
New Delhi, Aug. 7: Six more persons have been arrested in connection with the loot of `3 crores from two businessmen in east Delhi in June this year and `1 crore recovered from their possession, the police said on Sunday.
The police arrested Harpreet, Arun Verma, Bijender, Dilshad, Laxman and Sukhdev Singh from the National Capital Region for allegedly waylaying a car and robbing its occupants Rajesh Kumar Goyal and Ravi Kumar Goyal.
With this, the total number of people arrested in connection with the June 20 incident in east Delhi has risen to 10. Four persons were earlier arrested by the police and `1 crore was recovered from them.
The investigation has indicated that all the accused are drivers by profession.
“The accused were tipped off by Arun Verma, who had worked as a driver with the complainants and was aware of the fact that a large amount of cash was being transported by the complainants regularly in their WagonR (DL-7CH-6118),” DCP (east) Prabhakar said.
