BJP: Remove Sheila for free, fair probe

The Delhi BJP on Wednesday again targeted chief minister Sheila Dikshit by seeking her ouster to ensure a free and fair probe into the alleged corruption in the just-concluded Commonwealth Games. Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta on Wednesday sought inclusion of the chief minister in the ambit of investigation into the allegations of corruption in the Games.

“Ms Dikshit, her family members and other close persons are involved in the corruption in Games. She should be relieved of her post so that the enquiry may be impartial,” Mr Gupta demanded, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.
He added that the chief minister should take the responsibility for all the corruption in games projects worth nearly `20,000 crores implemented by the Delhi government.
The BJP leader also alleged that the chief minister is seeking to pass the buck to the Organising Committee for all the irregularities and was trying hard to absolve herself.
Hitting out at the city government, Mr Gupta alleged that “massive corruption” took place in projects implemented by various Delhi government agencies.
He demanded that the remaining payments to contractors and consultants involved in Games projects be held back. He also sought that the passports of all the suspects be confiscated immediately. Mr Gupta also said that the BJP will take out a protest march to the Prime Minister’s residence on Friday to press for a thorough probe into the irregularities in the Games.
On the issue of involvement of the MCD in the irregularities, the BJP leader stated “anybody involved in wrongdoing must be punished”.
Mr Gupta, on the basis of information gather under the RTI Act, also claimed that the estimated cost of Barapullah Nullah elevated road was increased from `352 crores to `433 crores by the city government without proper reasoning. Even in the case of Ring Road bypass project, the cost was increased from `172 crores to `214 crores, he charged.
“The state exchequer suffered a loss of `42 crores in the project,” Mr Gupta added.
