BJP seeks PC apology for ‘migrant’ comment
The Delhi BJP sought an apology from Union home minister P. Chidambaram for his remarks against migrants. Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly V.K. Malhotra termed Mr Chidambaram’s statement an insult to 50 lakh people residing in unauthorised colonies.
“Migrants come to Delhi to earn livelihood. Mr Chidambaram’s statement that the rise in crime is due to migrants is irresponsible and insensitive,” said Prof. Malhotra.
The home minister should apologise for making such statements in place of providing security to the women, he added.
Blade gangs are injuring women, gangrape is being committed in moving car, instilling sense of insecurity among the women, stated Prof. Malhotra.
Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta said that by making irresponsible allegations against residents of unauthorised colonies, Mr Chidambaram has insulted Congress president Sonia Gandhi as she had herself distributed provisional regularisation certificates to them in the Chhatrasal Stadium two years ago.
“Mr Chidambaram has publicly insulted 50 lakh people of Delhi by saying that the incidents of crime are increasing and civic amenities are decreasing due to the migrants and people of unauthorised colonies.,” he added.
