BJP slams govt for being silent on corruption
Releasing a white paper on the status of Commonwealth Games preparations, senior BJP leader and party incharge for Delhi M. Venkaiah Naidu alleged “violent” corruption by several agencies and demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to institute a monitoring mechanism by “honest” Central ministers. He also alleged that in the name of Commonwealth, the ruling party was indulging in creation of “individual wealth”.
Mr Naidu, while showing the newsclippings on the alleged irregularities in the Games preparations, slammed the government of being silent and sought a probe by officials who are “honest and whose integrity is beyond doubt”.
“The very name is Games. The idea is to create common wealth, infrastructure and better conduct of the Games to enhance the prestige and image of the country. India has got a rare opportunity to showcase it to the world. But unfortunately, some people of the ruling side seems to be converting common wealth to individual wealth and trying to misuse resources that were allotted. They are causing huge damage and harm to the cause of sports,” stated the senior BJP leader, who is also the vice-president of the party and was recently given the charge of Delhi.
