BJP targets Sheila over delay

Delhi BJP has criticised chief minister Sheila Dikshit for failing to meet several deadlines for various the Commonwealth Games projects in the past and now not setting any deadline.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, said on Sunday that while the city government and the agencies have missed nearly 10 deadlines in the last one year, the chief minister never paid heed to the reminders given by the Opposition as a result of which most of the projects were yet to be completed.
Apart from the fact that the city now looks all dug up, Mr Malhotra said that the athletes will begin reaching Delhi in the third week of September. “But the chief minister insists that all work will be over by October 3,” said Mr Malhotra. He added that even our players would not get the benefit of practising on home ground as even most of the practice venues were not ready.
Meanwhile, another BJP leader, Vijay Jolly, alleged that the caving-in of roads was due to corruption in the PWD, which is handling several Games-related projects. He pointed out that roads were caving-in across the city and it pointed towards some kind of nexus between the government officials and the contractors.
Earlier, on Friday, chief minister Sheila Dikshit had conceded that constant rains had affected the preparations as a result of which deadline of some projects might be extended beyond September 10, which was the new deadline after the agencies missed out on August 31 deadline. She had also said that God willing and rain not interfering all work should be over by October 3, when the Games are due to begin. As far as the PWD is concerned, the agency is yet to complete at least 14 out of the 34 projects it had taken up in the name of the Games.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
