BJP wants white paper on Afzal
The Delhi unit of the BJP on Saturday demanded a white paper from Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on why it delayed taking a stand on the mercy petition plea of the 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. The Delhi BJP also announced that the party would observe May 24 as a black day with sit-in led by party leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely to protest against price rise.
Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta told reporters on Saturday that “the Delhi government had been playing around with the sensitive issue”. “Why are they sitting over the file for four years when it can be proceeded in four minutes. The chief minister should issue a white paper and should apologise to the people,” demanded Mr Gupta, while asking the chief minister to make public the government’s reply to the reminder sent by the Union home ministry on April 28.
The Delhi BJP chief reiterated his demands that Afzal Guru should be hanged immediately. “A terrorist, irrespective of whether he is a Hindu or Muslim, should get the right punishment. By not taking action, the government has betrayed the faith of thousands of true Muslims,” Mr Gupta stated.
Mr Gupta also told reporters that Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley will lead the protest on May 24.
