Blueline buses to ply in city again
Blueline buses, which were phased out from the national capital after continuous accidents, will soon get another opportunity to ply in the city.
Delhi transport minister Ramakant Goswami said on Wednesday that the city government is working on the rehabilitation of more than 1,000 blueline bus owners following the court’s order.
The buses might be used as contract carriage or get the licence of mini-buses to ply in the rural areas of Delhi.
“After being phased out from the roads, employment of the owners of the blueline buses had become a big responsibility for the city government. Following the court orders we are creating different opportunities to engage these buses in the transport system of Delhi,” said delhi transport minister Ramakant Goswami.
The Delhi high court, earlier in the month of August 2012, had directed the city government to bring out a rehabilitation scheme for out-of-job blueline bus owners as soon as possible.
However, he confirmed that the blueline buses will not ply again as the counterpart of DTC buses.
The private blueline buses were phased out from the Delhi roads in February 2011 following the accidents and death of scores of people. It was also awarded with a nickname of “killerline”.
