Bluelines 6 times more accident prone: Govt
The hearing on the Blueline bus phaseout in the Delhi high court was adjourned till December 21. On Wednesday, the high court had refused to give Blueline bus operators any relief.
The high court observed on Thursday that the private buses are six times more accident prone than state-run DTC buses.
Senior advocate K.T.S. Tulsi said, “Blueline buses cause more accidents than other modes of transport. While one person gets killed per 180 DTC buses, the figure is alarmingly high for Blueline buses which is around one death per 33 buses. It is six time more than DTC buses.”
The Blueline operators, however, contended that the figure is misleading and people of the capital would face hardships if their buses are taken off the roads. “Buses are not available from the companies. So it is not proper to phaseout Blueline buses as the DTC would not be able to procure sufficient number of buses from the companies,” senior advocate V.P. Singh told a bench headed by Justice A.K. Sikri.
On Wednesday, the Delhi high court had refused to stay the Delhi government’s notification phasing out the Blueline buses.
