Bollywood to share thoughts with Delhi

Bollywood celebrities are gathering in the city for a discussion on cinema on Friday and citizens are welcome to speak on the issue.

Directors Mahesh Bhatt, Amol Gupte, Abhishek Verma (Tere Bin Laden), Raj Kumar Gupta (No One Killed Jessica) Chandraprakash Dwivedi (Chanakya, Pinjar), Sanjay Jha Mastan (Pran Jaye Pur Shaan Na Jaye), screen writer and actors Atul Tiwari, Vineet Kumar, Swara Bhaskar and some other “think-tanks” of cinema will be sharing their thoughts with Delhiites on Friday. Mohallalive.com, a web forum, is organising a discussion on “Hindi Cinema Beyond Bollywood” in its series of talks — Bahastalab 2011, at Siri Fort Auditorium II.
The world of Hindi has not focused significantly on a collaborative discourse on creation of cinema in spite of the popularity and ambition that the medium commands.
Mohall-alive.com has been trying for the past few years to fill the vacuum in a lucid manner, breaking the mould of the dense intellectualism, so that it starts belonging to the people out there, and they don’t feel awkward or judged while putting forth their points.
The first sesison, “The Possibilities, Significance, and Utility of Hindi Cinema Outside of Bollywood Mainstream,” will begin at 1 pm. Session two, beginning at 3.15pm, will focus on “Cinema, Creativity, Censorship and Society.” The thrrd session, “Key Challenges facing Hindi Cinema,” will begin at 5.30 pm.
All the sessions of the programme will be open for interaction with audiences in the end. The entry is open to all.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
