Bomb threat text message proves hoax
A text message, generated from Blackberry messenger, claiming the recovery of a bomb from Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi on Wednesday turned out to be a hoax.
The police said the message has been generated by a Blackberry phone user and it got circulated to many people, triggering panic. The officials said the “badly worded” message claimed that the bomb disposal squad had recovered a bomb from Vasant Kunj.
“The message was forwarded to many people, which triggered some panic amongst the denizens. The sender had claimed that a bomb disposal squad has been sent to Vasant Kunj and it has recovered a bomb. As a precautionary measure, a standard operating procedure was followed and no such bomb was recovered following which the call was declared hoax,” a senior police official said.
Investigations are on to ascertain how the message was generated and to identify the accused involved in the matter.
“No arrests have been made so far,” the official said.
Meanwhile, a mock drill was conducted in Greater Kailash area of southeast Delhi on Wednesday to check the preparedness of various security agencies in the city to deal with emergency situations.
