Book Fair opens with fanfare
Delhi Book Fair opened on Saturday at Pragati Maidan with “Books of Rural India” as the theme. The Book Fair is expecting participation of over 250 publishers from India and abroad. Various seminars, book launches and panel discussions will be held during the fair.
The 16th edition of Delhi Book Fair was opened by Dr Suvas Pani, who is the chairman and managing director of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). The fair is jointly organised by the ITPO and the Federation of Indian Publishers.
Dr Pani said that the Indian book market is truly vibrant. “With over 16,000 publishers and 30,000 bookshops besides multi-national publishing companies bring out around 70,000 titles per annum, the Indian book market is truly vibrant,” said Dr Pani.
Delhi Book Fair is generally organised in the month of September but was postponed due to the Commonwealth Games in October.
However, this year the organisers are expecting less participation from abroad due to the festive season. They, however, feel that less participation will turn the focus on Indian publishers.
