Boy, 6, dies in house collapse
A six-year-old boy was killed and his elder sister and mother critically injured when a century-old three-storey building collapsed in Hauz Qazi area of central Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.
According to fire officials, the incident was reported from Ballimaran area. The police said that the building collapsed due to heavy rains.
“The building was in a dilapidated state and it was declared dangerous for staying,” an official said.
The deceased, identified as Mohammad Masood, was studying in a room on the ground floor with his sister Fiza, 8, while their mother Shahnaz was doing household work when the building collapsed.
“All the three were trapped and were rescued from the debris by a team of fire and police officials. They were immediately rushed to nearby Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital where the doctors declared Masood brought dead. His mother and sister are undergoing treatment and their condition is reported critical,” said a police official.
The father of the deceased, Mohammad Atiq Siddiqui, is a journalist and works with a Hindi daily.
