Boy hit by bullet in revelry firing, dies
In a tragic incident, a nine-year-old boy was shot dead when two inebriated persons resorted to indiscriminate celebratory firing at a marriage ceremony in southwest Delhi’s Jafarpur Kalan on Thursday evening.
The police said the deceased boy, identified as Shivam, a Class 5 student of a private school, was hit in the neck by a bullet fired from a double-barrel gun during a marriage ceremony at Kharkhari Jatmal village in Jafarpur Kalan. The accused have been identified as Satish, a resident of Rohtak in neighbouring Haryana and Praveen, who lives in Najafgarh. The incident took place at around 9 pm on Thursday.
“A stage had been set up for the bride and groom, and the guests were busy clicking photographs with the couple. After finishing their dinner, Satish and Praveen too joined the guests. After clicking photographs, they started firing indiscriminately with their double-barrel guns. A group of children were standing below the stage and Shivam got hit by a bullet in his neck,” DCP (southwest) A.K. Ojha said.
Suddenly the atmosphere at the venue changed from that of celebrations to mourning as the news of Shivam getting shot spread among the guests. A call was made to the police control room and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
“The two accused were arrested from the spot. Their medical examination revealed that they had dangerous levels of alcohol in their blood at the time of the incident. We have registered a case of murder against the two and they have been sent to jail,” Mr Ojha said.
