Boy shoots at another at Saket school
A student of Class 9 allegedly fired at his schoolmate with an air-pistol following an argument over a trivial issue in the school’s playground at Saket in south Delhi on Wednesday. The incident occurred in a government-aided school.
The injuries to the Class 8 student, identified as Guarav Yadav, were, however, not serious and he was discharged after first-aid. The police has detained the accused minor and was trying to ascertain as to how he managed to procure the air-pistol.
The incident has also highlighted negligent attitude of the schools. Many students of the school complained that boys often came to school with weapons like knives, said the police. The incident took place in Veer Chandra Garwhal Public School in Saket at around 9 am.
The Class 9 student opened fire using the 0.22 bore air-pistol when two groups of students clashed in the playground over some issue, said the police.
Police officers added, “The Class 9 student had brought the air-pistol to the school. During the fight, he allegedly opened fire in which Gaurav suffered minor injuries on his shoulder.” Gaurav was later rushed to AIIMS trauma centre from where he was discharged after treatment.
The student, who allegedly opened fire, has been taken into custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act.
A school official stated, “These children were playing cricket during which a heated argument took place in between two groups of students. There was a fist fight between them and then suddenly the accused boy pulled out the gun from his bag and opened fire.”
A Class 10 student added, “There are some students who bring guns, knives and surgical blades to school to threaten other students.”
