Brace for traffic curbs for dedicated lane from today
The Delhi police will operationalise dedicated lanes for Commonwealth Games from Thursday. The regular traffic would not be closed fully. Those violating the rules and straying into the lanes will be fined `2,000.
Joint commissioner (traffic) Satyendra Garg said, “The exclusive lanes will come into effect from tomorrow. It would be done in a need-based manner and there would be no 24-hour closedown”.
The police had earlier decided to operationalise Games lanes from Monday but later postponed it on coming to know that the first batch of athletes will arrive on Thursday.
“All road users are expected to follow the rules. Anyone straying into the lane by mistake should come out as soon as possible,” he said.
He said the dedicated lane is part of the contract entered into by the host city and Commonwealth Games Federation. “There will be zero tolerance towards violation. Our motto is zero tolerance and maximum prosecution,” he said.
Initially, the restrictions on Games lanes will be operational during night only as international flights carrying athletes are scheduled during these hours.
Public is advised to avoid as far as possible CWG lanes in general and Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Siri Fort Road, Harsukh Marg, Purana Quila Road and Mother Teresa Crescent Road in particular as these roads have only two lanes in one carriageway and one lane is already reserved for Games-related traffic.
