Brash youth ram car, squabble with police
In a road rage incident, five youth in their early twenties, including three girls, got into an argument with police and a media crew after their Volkswagen hit a truck that was clearing debris in south Delhi’s Andrews Ganj on Sunday. Moreover, when the local police intervened to calm them, they quarrelled with them.
No one was injured in the incident, which took place at around 2.30 am when the youth were coming from AIIMS side towards Defence Colony, a senior police official said.
Initial investigations have pointed out that the youth in the car were returning home after a party in the Saket area of south Delhi. Havneet Singh (24), a resident of west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh, who was driving the car, was arrested in the afternoon, the police said.
Mr Singh’s father is a Punjabi Bagh-based businessman. “The car was speeding and it hit a truck, which was clearing the debris, from behind. After the incident, the youth got involved in an argument with the truck driver,” the police said.
Later, the police and a media crew reached the spot and the youth entered into an argument with them also. “They even used abusive language with the police officers and media personnel present at the spot. The youth even tried to hit the camera crew when they tried to film the incident,” the official said. Investigating officers have stated that at least three of the accused were under the influence of alcohol.
