BSP MP’s residence in Lutyens burgled
The Lutyens’ Delhi residence of Bahujan Samaj Party’s Lok Sabha MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq was burgled by unidentified assailants, the police said on Tuesday.
Police sources said the incident is believed to have taken place at 12, Windsor Place residence, of Mr Barq in between March 9 and March 10. Mr Barq, who has been elected to Lok Sabha from Sambhal constituency in UP, had gone to Uttar Pradesh to attend a party meeting after the BSP’s defeat in the recently concluded Assembly elections. The incident came to light when his domestic help, identified as Rizwan, returned from Uttar Pradesh to find the door of a bathroom at the bungalow open.
“When he went in to check, he discovered that the assailants had removed the taps and some sanitary ware from the bathroom,” a source said. Further inquiries by Rizwan revealed that the assailants had gained access into all the five bathrooms of the bungalow located in the high security zone of the city and had stolen taps, along with some other valuable items from them.
“Rizwan then opened the door of the bungalow to find that the assailants had even barged into the house and had broken open one almirah. The articles in the room were lying scattered. He then informed Mr Barq about the break-in who directed him to approach the police and lodge a complaint against the assailants,” a senior police official said.
A team of police personnel, along with crime investigating unit, arrived at the bungalow and took some samples from the site for examinations. Police officials said a case has been registered under different sections of IPC at Parliament Street police station but no arrests have been made so far.
