Budget is a step forward: Sheila
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said that the budget presented by her is a step in the forward direction for the city and she has attempted only what she finds to be realistic.
“In budget-making, we gave attention to what is possible and what is not. We have been realistic,” Ms Dikshit told reporters after presenting the budget.
She said that she has made attempt to send social message that consumption of sweetmeats, namkeen, tobacco is not good for health. Asked why liquor does not figure in her tax proposals if she is concerned about public health, Ms Dikshit asked reporters to wait for the new excise policy. She said that “she has not attempted to tamper too much and has tried to give a balanced budget”. On the transport sector getting top-most priority, Ms Dikshit said that public transport is a big problem. “We are not able to meet the demand despite the Metro network. Hence, transport is getting the highest plan allocation,” she said.
On a lighter note, when asked how she felt about the budget if she thought herself as a housewife, Ms Dikshit quipped “then I would not understand a word of it”.
