Building collapses after fire
Four persons, including three firemen, were injured when a portion of a building which was engulfed by flames on Sunday evening, collapsed near the crowded Chawri Bazar market in Old Delhi.
Fire officials said the blaze was apparently triggered by a short circuit in the ground floor of the building located in Maliwada locality of Nayi SadaK near Chawri Bazar. The incident was reported at around 5 pm and 27 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
The narrow lanes and shifting alleys made the rescue operation cumbersome as hose pipes had to be laid to supply water to the fire-fighters. In the meantime, power and water supply was cut and people were evacuated from adjoining structures. At around 9 pm, a wall collapsed and fell on the four victims, who have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
