Building gutted in fire, traffic hit
A three-storied building housing an auto spare parts godown was reduced to ashes in Karol Bagh on Thursday. The blaze was noticed in the basement at around 3.20 am. Fire officials said the blaze, sparked by leakage in the CNG kit of a Maruti Baleno car, spread to other floors. No one was injured in the incident.
The building near Liberty Cinema on New Rohtak Road was reported engulfed in flames. About 25 fire tenders were rushed and the fire was doused by 12.30 pm.
Traffic was disrupted on the busy route for over three hours.
The owner of the building is on a pilgrimage and has been informed about the incident.

HC summons forest official over inaction
New Delhi, Dec. 9: Irked over alleged inaction over the felling of trees in the capital, the Delhi high court has asked the chief forest conservator to personally appear before it and apprise it of the steps taken in this regard.
“Let the Chief Forest Conservator appear in person and explain about the discriminatory action being taken against the petitioner on December 15,” Justice S.N. Dhingra said.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Praveen Gupta, a resident of Pitampura in northwest Delhi, alleging that the forest department chose not to take any action on his complaint about the felling of around 50 trees in the area.
He also alleged that instead of taking action, the department was harassing him for taking up the cause.
Taking serious note of the allegations, Justice Dhingra said that the department did not take any action on the complaint of his personal secretary also.
“The officer shall appear in the court and explain the action taken by him on a complaint made to the police station by the private secretary of the undersigned (the judge) about the cutting of more than 20 trees at 9, Teen Murti lane here,” the court said. —PTI
