Cabbie rapes woman, throws her out
A 22-year-old woman, who works at a discotheque in Gurgaon, was allegedly abducted and raped by a cab driver at a farmhouse in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area in the early hours on Tuesday. The accused driver threw the victim out of his cab on spotting a police post and sped away.
The incident came to light at around 4.30 am when the victim approached a police picket at Kishangarh in Mehrauli and told the personnel deployed there that she was thrown out of a cab which she had hired from the Sahara Mall in Gurgaon for Kishangarh in south Delhi where she lives with her family.
“As soon as she got into the car in Gurgaon, the accused cab driver, who was later identified as Shiv Kumar, 30, a resident of Khanpur, started passing lewd remarks at her. The victim ignored his remarks and asked him to stay quiet. The driver however took her to a farmhouse in Mehrauli where he first allegedly assaulted her and then raped her,” a police source said.
Kumar then drove the cab towards the victim’s residence but spotted a police picket. Sensing that he may be caught, he threw the woman out of his cab.
The victim then approached the police personnel and narrated her ordeal to them.
“She initially told us that the cab driver had snatched her chain. The cab driver had fled from the spot and a police team started chasing him but he had escaped from the area. When the policemen returned, the woman said that the cab driver had also raped her,” added the officer.
“The cab belongs to OX cab company. The driver has been arrested and a case regarding the incident has been registered against him,” said the officer.
The woman was taken to AIIMS where her medical examination confirmed rape.
“A case regarding the incident has been registered at the Mehrauli police station and our investigation is on to ascertain the sequence of events during the incident,” said the officer.
