Cabinet to take up circle rates today
The Delhi Cabinet may yet again take up the issue of circle rates in the city, which has become a bone of contention between Delhi lieutenant-governor Tejendra Khanna and chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
Ms Dikshit refused to comment on the issue when prodded by the reporters at a function here on Sunday. Meanwhile, sources said that the Cabinet may take up the issue when it meets on Monday. While there was no official statement after the Cabinet meeting on Friday evening, speculation was rife that the issue of circle rates was taken up.
The file related to increase of hike in circle rates had been sent to Mr Khanna, who had returned it seeking certain changes relating to categories and the level of hike. However, the city government returned the file without making any changes. Subsequently, the office of the L-G again returned the file seeking modifications suggested by him and also maintaining that fixing stamp duty in the city fell within his purview. However, the government returned the file unchanged within 24 hours.
