CAG report exposes bungling: BJP
Delhi BJP on Tuesday accused the Sheila Dikshit government of being involved in irregularities in procurement of medical equipment for Commonwealth Games saying that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has detected transgressions responsible for loss of crores of rupees to the exchequer.
While talking to the media on the CAG interim report which has been submitted in Parliament, Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta said, “The interim report shows that the government flouted norms in procurement of equipment and bought it much above the market rates while beds and equipment at some designated hospitals were supplied only after the event.”
Quoting from the report, which is in possession of this newspaper, Mr Gupta said 64 beds were to be arranged for wards in the hospitals before September 3, 2010, but were not supplied before the event and false work completion certificates were issued by the authorities. The beds were arranged after November 2010. Criticising the government for lack of efficiency, Mr Gupta said that the authorities could spend only `15.44 crores for enhancing health services out of total allocation of `41.53 crores.
The report further states, “Although the tender process for procurement of the items was to start in November 2009, it began in May 2010 leaving too little time to go for an open procedure and resulting in serious irregularities and lapses in the procedure”.
