Cases against house owner, contractor
The Delhi police has registered a case of culpable homicide against the owner and contractor for carrying out construction in a building in the walled city that collapsed on Tuesday night killing seven and injuring 25 people.
A Delhi police official said that a case was registered under Section 304 (culpable homicide) against Anil, the owner of the building where construction was taking place, and a contractor named Haji Jalaludin.
Seven persons, including four women and a minor boy, were killed and 22 injured when two adjacent buildings collapsed in Chandni Mahal in Old Delhi’s Daryaganj area last night.
The building collapsed when Anil was carrying out some digging work. With the collapse of his building the next building got razed too. Officials said they were investigating whether Anil had sought permission from Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to carry out the construction.
