Cave-in on Vikas Marg hits traffic
Exposing the poor state of infrastructure in the city, a stretch of Vikas Marg caved in on Friday morning. The officials said that an underground pipe burst caused the cave in of about 20-foot stretch.
The traffic on Vikas Marg was affected following the cave in. “A stretch of the road between Nirman Vihar and Shastri Vihar caved in at around 7 am. The bursting of an underground water pipeline is attributed as reason for the cave in,” said a senior official.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit directed the authorities to immediately repair the road. However, Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta slammed the city government for the poor state of roads in the capital ahead of the Games. “This is another example of sub-standard construction in the name of Commonwealth Games,” said Mr Gupta, after visiting the spot with senior BJP leaders.
Mr Gupta held chief minister Sheila Dikshit and PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan responsible for the incident and demanded that the Prime Minister take appropriate action against these two.
“Ms Dikshit should explain to the Prime Minister about the sub-standard work,” added Mr Gupta.
