CBI conducts search at 10 locations
The CBI conducted searches at more than ten places in Delhi in connection with irregularities committed in the construction of Barapulla elevated road project, which was constructed for the Commonwealth Games.
According to sources, searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of government officials last week. Searches were conducted in a very discreet manner, sources said, adding that now government officials will be called for questioning.
The agency officials have also seized some incriminating documents during the searches, revealed sources.
“The CBI recently registered an FIR in connection with irregularities committed in awarding the contract related to construction of Delhi government’s Barapulla elevated road project (worth `400 crores). Now, the CBI officials are expected to make arrests in this connection in a day or two”, sources said.
“The agency has collected sufficient evidence against certain government officials, as well as private contractors, involved in the Barapulla road project,” sources said. Initial probe by the agency has reportedly revealed that officials of the concerned department did not even bother to monitor the construction work carried-out by the contractors properly, sources said.
Besides, the delay in awarding the Barapulla contract by the public works department of the Delhi government resulted in over expenditure, sources added.
“The agency is also examining the reports of special adviser, Commonwealth Games, R. Narayanswami, which state that the contractor delayed the project,” sources said. The concerned contractors did not bother to put in additional efforts to complete the project on time, sources said. The Enforcement Directorate, which is also probing CWG contracts, has also started collecting relevant documents related to the Barapulla project, sources added.
