CBI seeks time for filing reply
The CBI on Monday sought more time from a city court for filing response on a plea by Sajjan Kumar and three other accused in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, after the Congress leader sought removal of agency’s witnesses.
District judge J.R. Aryan asked the CBI to submit responses on September 30 on the application of the accused. The arguments on the matter will be heard on the same day.
Kumar’s counsel had said in the plea that CBI had filed a consolidated chargesheet of three separate FIRs and the nine prosecution witnesses, who are not related to the murder of victim Surjit Singh, should be removed.
Seeking more time, CBI prosecutor D.P. Singh said the agency has to see files of the old cases which have been decided by other courts long back. He said they have not been able to see the files as yet.

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 2
Delhi University administration has advised aspiring students leaders to use its official FM and websites to campaign instead of defacing property by pasting posters during the upcoming Delhi University Students Election (Dusu) election.
“The University is offering its official website and radio station for a certain period where the candidate’s speeches, after verification, will be broadcast,” said chief election officer Dr Ashok Vohra.
He said that the decision has been taken to stop defacement of property by students group. The students bodies, which are backed by major political parties, have been putting posters across DU colleges.
