CCTVs soon in 6 court complexes
The Delhi police has tightened their belts to secure the court complexes in Delhi. After the bomb blast in front of the Delhi high court on September 7, which has claimed 15 lives so far and injured more than 70; the police has started the process of installing CCTV cameras in six court complexes in Delhi.
The police has floated the tender for CCTVs installation in Supreme Court, Delhi high court Patiala house court, Tees Hazari court, Saket and Dwarka court.
The officials has decided to hire more than 235 CCTVs to secure the court complexes.
“44 CCTVs are being installed at the Supreme Court while the number for high court is 31, Patiala court 32, Tis Hazari 30, Saket 50 and Dwarka 48. The CCTVs will cover the entire perimeter and will capture the image of those approaching the court premises. The recording will be non-stop,” said a senior police official.
The officials has decided to cover the perimeter of courts after it was found that there was no CCTV coverage outside the high court, which witnessed two blasts in the past four months. Earlier, the Delhi CM has ordered an inquiry on the failure of the installation of CCTV cameras by Public Works Department, following which the PWD has also ordered an internal inquiry but the PWD officials blamed the police officials for changing their plans of installation of cameras.
However, the official said that besides CCTVs, more police personnel are being deployed at courts to thwart any untoward incident. “CCTVs act as a deterrent and will help in investigations,” the official said.
Apart from the busy Patiala courts and Tees Hazari, which cater to thousands on a daily basis, the Saket district court complex has 60 courts while the Dwarka complex has 45 courts.
The Saket court is the latest district court in the capital.
