Chain snatcher shoots self in leg, gets caught
In a bizarre incident, a fleeing chain snatcher shot himself in the leg in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara locality on Sunday. According to the police, a woman Satyavati, 45, and her 21-year-old nephew were travelling in her Esteem car when two men on a black Pulsar motorcycle overtook them near Sector-15. While one drove along, the man riding pillion snatched a chain from the woman’s neck. They fled from the spot. But after covering a certain distance, their motorcycle skid off the road and they started to run on foot.
In the meantime, the victim alerted the police which chased the criminals. However, while the criminals were running, accidently shot himself with the pistol he was carrying in his trouser pocket.
The bullet hit him in his leg. Taking advantage, the policemen who were in pursuit, overpowered them and admitted the injured criminal in the government MMG Hospital where doctors attending on him said that he was out of danger.
“During sustained interrogation the criminals confessed to their crime and even admitted that they were trying to kill the woman but accidently injured one of their own. They revealed their identities as Jitendra, 30, and Chhotu Yadav,22, both residents of Noida,” said Kamlesh Bahadur, the circle officer II of the Ghaziabad police.
