Change in boys, girls timings spark protest
A decision to finish co-education in a New Ashok Nagar-based government school allegedly led the students to stone pelting. While students were left after being given warnings by the police officers, at least two low-floor buses, one RTV mini bus and a car were badly damaged in the incident. The incident happened in the Dallupura area of New Ashok Nagar.
So far, the police officers have said that on Friday morning, the school authorities announced to change shifts of boys and girls. “Some students, who were angry at the decision, initially protested inside the school premises against the decision,” said the police. However, when the school authorities threatened to suspend them for further protests, the students took to stone-pelting outside the school premises on Saturday, added the police.
Police officers have confirmed that the students involved in the incident have caused serious damage to the vehicles. However, no one has been reported to be injured in the incident. Meanwhile, the local traffic police in the area confirmed that there was a traffic jam for atleast two hours in the area due to the stone pelting by the students.
“Traffic was also blocked in the roads of near by areas which connect to Dallupura,” added the police. “At least four PCR vans were rushed to the spot and it took the police officers two hours to bring the situation under control,” said the police.
