City markets see heavy rush of shoppers

The markets in the city saw huge crowds on Wednesday as people indulged in shopping that is considered auspicious on the occasion of Dhanteras, two days before Diwali. The stress was on buying precious metals like gold and silver, besides utensils.

The wholesale markets in the city like Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh saw a good number of footfalls, which gave the traders a sense of relief, as the prices of all precious and non-precious metals were quite high.
The traders in one of the biggest wholesale markets for utensils in the country, the Deputyganj market in Sadar Bazar area claimed that the sale for just one day was set to be higher than what it was last year.
There were many who did not mind walking up to the counters of various banks to buy gold and silver coins and not limiting themselves to the jewellery stores.
