City paralysed for 3rd day running

For the third consecutive day, road users were stranded on roads, cave-ins were reported, trees fell on vehicles leaving them damaged and portions of houses collapsed, as the capital received 17.4 mm of rain since Saturday morning. Several surrounding areas of the city also received heavy and persistent rainfall. So far, the city has received 600 mm of rainfall, which is more than 30 per cent of the season average for Delhi of 454.1 mm.

Apart from 17.4 mm since on Saturday morning, the capital also received 24.9 mm of rain from Friday to Saturday morning. The weatherman has predicted more rain on Sunday with one or two showers likely to be heavy to very heavy. As a result of the consistent downpour, the maximum temperature in the capital was recorded at 28.4ºC, which was 6ºC less than normal.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.8ºC (which was one degree above normal).
The MCD’s central control room received water logging complaints from at least 78 points, besides 28 complaints of trees or their parts falling and four incidents of portions of house collapsing.
The worst affected areas were in south, southwest and southeast Delhi where huge traffic snarls were reported in the morning.
Some of the areas affected due to water logging were Lado Sarai, Hauz Khas Chowk, Saket Colony, C-2 Block in Vasant Kunj, GK Part-2, the underbridge at Sheikh Sarai, Devli Morh, Tigri Khanpur, Sarv Priya Vihar, Munirka Village (near subway), Mehrauli (ward No. 8), Sector-4 R.K. Puram, Pushp Vihar, Sangam Vihar, Badarpur (towards Prahladpur under railway bridge), East of Kailash (near BSES office), Kalkaji and Chittaranjan Park.
In north, northwest and outer Delhi too, several areas reported water logging. Some of these areas were ISBT Kashmere Gate, Sector 11 Rohini, Aman Vihar, Dwarka underpass, Rajokri Farmhouse Avenue.
At least a couple of vehicles were damaged when trees fell on cars on the main road in Katwaria Sarai in south Delhi and Safdarjung Enclave.
