‘City suffers water, power shortage’
Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Prof. V. K. Malhotra, criticised the city government for unabated power cuts and shortage of water in the capital.
“Irrespective of the promises of chief minister Sheila Dikshit the situation in the capital remains grim. People are facing acute shortages of water and electricity,” Prof. Malhotra said in a statement.
“Private power companies have already started power cuts in various areas of the city in a bid to either pressurise the government to increase power tariffs or secure subsidy for their companies. There is a tug of war between the power companies and the government on the issue of power tariff hike,” said Prof. Malhotra.
The senior Bhartiya Janata Party leader further said that the prevailing water situation could be gauged from the fact that residents of colonies like Vasant Vihar and R.K. Puram were forced to demonstrate against the government.
“Even Union minister Ajay Maken and R.K. Puram MLA Barkha Singh were among the protesters. Ms Singh had to finally threaten a hunger strike if the water situation in her area was not resolved soon. Also, Delhi Congress chief J.P. Agarwal has been castigating the Shiela Dikshit government every second day on its failures to provide water to residents,” Prof. Malhotra added.
The senior BJP leader called upon the Congress legislators and MPs to seek resignation of the chief minister if they were serious about their protest.
